Course Description

Over four interactive sessions, you will learn the foundations of high-performance: Resilience, Priority Management, Communication and Connection. The fifth session is a reflective panel where we will discuss your practical experiences of applying these new skills. The course is delivered live, via online sessions and is supplemented by an online forum, giving you the opportunity to ask questions or discuss real life scenarios as they occur. Session 1: Resilience 101 In this session we will introduce the concept of resilience and how we can help ourselves and our team to better manage the potential and perceived stressors associated with legal practice. We will explore practical techniques to manage overload and avoid burnout, including stress management and combatting thinking traps. Learning Objectives: - To understand that wellbeing & self-care are the foundations of high-performance; - To proactively consider and recognise stress in ourselves and others; - To understand the tools available to build resilience. Session 2 : How to Prioritise & Thrive In this session we will explore how to achieve goals in the dynamic, ultra-adaptive world of legal practice. We will consider task, time and self-management tools and the important role that decision making has on effective priority management. Learning Objectives: - To understand the concept of priority management; - To explore the importance of effective decision making in dynamic & ultra-adaptive environments; - To consider the practical and effective application of priority management tools. Session 3: Communication In this session we will consider the communication challenges that junior lawyers may face in the high-pressured environments of a busy legal function and explore how we can communicate effectively as a team. Learning Objectives: - To understand how to communicate effectively; - To consider the importance of active listening, empathy and compassion; - To learn how to have courageous conversations. Session 4: Connection In this session we will discuss the power of connection as a core pillar of resilience and explore how we can develop strong relationships and use these to maximise our performance and wellbeing. Learning Objectives: - To understand the importance of psychological safety; - To be able to integrate quickly and thrive in dynamic teams and fast track working relationships; - To explore appropriate assertiveness.
